Abstract:

After a brief review of the status of conventional quark-antiquark mesons and of the open questions that still relate to them, we concentrate on novel exotic structures in the realm of light mesons. 
These include the lightest possible hybrid states, that involve the recently discovered eta1(1855) meson, to the scattering of glueballs and the eventual formation of a bound state. Moreover, we also comment on the mathematically analogous scattering of two Higgs bosons.
