Rupam Samanta (AGH): Transverse momentum fluctuation in ultra-central PbPb collision at LHC

Europe/Warsaw
Description

Abstract:

I will be discussing the fluctuation of transverse momentum per particle ( [p_T] ) in ultra-central PbPb collisions at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) energy, based on our recent study. Recent measurement of [p_T]-fluctuation by the ATLAS collaboration shows a steep decrease over a narrow range of multiplicity in the ultra-central region. Our simple phenomenological Gaussian-fluctuation model can well reproduce this behavior of the data. In our model, we can separate the geometrical and quantum fluctuation, contributing to the fluctuation of [p_T] at the final state. With the model-fit to the data, we also explore non-Gaussian characteristics of [p_T]-fluctuation. Based on our model, we make predictions for skewness and kurtosis of [p_T]-fluctuation. Our prediction for skewness has already been verified by the recent ATLAS measurement. The study of transverse momentum fluctuation carries a greater physical significance and could be useful to understand the properties of Quark-Gluon-Plasma.
