dr hab. inż. Mateusz Dyndał (AGH): When exclusivity fails: hadronic effects of electromagnetic dissociation in ultraperipheral collisions at the LHC
→
Europe/Warsaw
Description
Abstract:
Ultraperipheral collisions at the LHC provide a clean environment for studying photon-induced interactions, with exclusive final states playing a central role in many measurements. However, additional electromagnetic interactions can accompany the primary process, leading to electromagnetic dissociation of the colliding ions and the production of secondary hadrons when the exchanged photon energy is sufficiently high. The resulting hadronic activity can enter the detector acceptance and cause genuine signal events to fail the exclusivity requirements. The impact of this effect is investigated for representative two-photon and photonuclear processes.
Important: This seminar is held in building D-11 room 104.
