dr hab. Jacek Otwinowski (IFJ PAN): Unveiling the strong interaction between stable and unstable baryons with ALICE at the LHC

Europe/Warsaw
Description

Abstract:

The ALICE Collaboration has recently presented in the Nature [1] a new approach to study the strong interaction between protons and hyperons in proton-proton collisions at the LHC. A new method is based on the femtoscopic two-particle correlations, which at the LHC energies allow for the study of the strong interaction at short distances. The presented approach can be used to study the strong interaction between any pair of hadrons (hyperons) to understand its dependence on the quark content. It is particularly important in the context of equation of state of neutron stars where we do expect a large density of different hyperon species. I will discuss the obtained results in comparison with the state-of-the-art lattice QCD calculations.
