dr Anderson Kohara (AGH): An evolution equation for elastic scattering of hadrons

Abstract:

In this seminar we will discuss a different approach for the elastic scattering of hadrons. Basing on the Regge field theory we formulate and solve numerically an energy evolution equation for the complex elastic scattering amplitude, turning the process into an initial value problem. The equation is a complex version of the Fisher-Kolmogorov-Petrovsky-Piscounov equation in the impact parameter space. We compare the resulting amplitudes with the experimental data from ISR (tens of GeV) to LHC (TeV) energies using different initial conditions. We discuss a possible interpretation for the difference at the dip in the crossed channel (odderon) and also the old (but not solved) relative Coulomb phase.
