dr hab. inż. Mateusz Dyndał (AGH): New measurements of the magnetic moments of charged leptons

Europe/Warsaw
Description

Abstract:

Since 1940s, physicists are interested in measuring the magnetic moments of elementary particles in order to discover intriguing phenomena of the quantum world. According to quantum physics, clouds of virtual particles and antiparticles constantly appear and disappear. These feeble fluctuations slightly change the values of the magnetic moments of the measured particles. By measuring these changes very precisely, physicists can look into this cloud to discover possible signs of new (non-Standard Model) particles. The presentation will summarize the latest measurements of the magnetic moments of electrons, muons and tau leptons.
