dr Tribhuban Parida (AGH): Probing Baryon Stopping and Diffusion with Rapidity-Even Directed Flow of Protons and Antiprotons

→ Europe/Warsaw
Description

Abstract:

Baryon diffusion, like shear and bulk viscosity, is a transport property of the strongly interacting QCD medium, and its quantitative extraction is one of the major goals of the beam energy scan program. As in the case of the viscosities, such an extraction is limited by uncertainties in the initial condition. In the baryon sector, this uncertainty lies in the space-time distribution of the baryon number deposited at the initial stage of the collision, i.e. in the mechanism of baryon stopping, which must therefore be understood before diffusion can be reliably constrained. In this talk, I show that the rapidity-even component of directed flow, v1(even), and in particular its splitting between protons and antiprotons, serves this purpose. Using a relativistic hydrodynamic framework for Au+Au collisions at beam energy scan energies, I studied two initial baryon deposition profiles that differ in their rapidity-even component, which can be interpreted as arising from double-junction stopping. The proton–antiproton splitting $\Delta v_1 (y)$ is found to be directly sensitive to the initial baryon distribution and diffusion. It's measurement may provide phenomenological insight into the baryon-junction picture of stopping and can constrain the baryon diffusion coefficient of QCD matter.
